Daniel Garringer
Contemporary Realist
Kearney Nebraska

Being and artist isn’t new to Daniel Garringer.  He grew up drawing on discarded paper his mother, a teacher, would bring home from school.   He recalls some of the drawings his father had done of horses, windmills, and the Nebraska region.  He too, began recording images of Nebraska.  Born in Nebraska City, Nebraska in 1962, Garringer has been a lifelong resident of the state.  In 1968 his family moved to Central Nebraska, eventually settling in Kearney.  During High School his art teacher Jack Shofstall introduced him to the works of Andrew Wyeth.   Shofstall encouraged Garringer to continue his artistic development.   In 1980 he enrolled at the then, Kearney State College to pursue a degree in Art Education.  While at Kearney State College he worked under the supervision of exceptional professors like Jon Dinsmore, Jack Karraker, Keith Lowry, Larry Peterson, and Ray Schultz.  Garringer interrupted his education in 1982 when he married his wife Paige and took up farming with his in-laws while his wife finished her education.  Garringer returned Kearney State College and graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.  He immediately began teaching in the public school systems.  In 2003 he completed his Masters Degree in Art Education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He began entering juried shows and exhibiting on a limited basis and was immediately honored with best of show and other juror’s top recognitions.  His teaching career has involved teaching K-12th grade art.  He currently teaches Middle School Art for Kearney Public Schools and as time allows draws and paints in his home studio.
